On May 1st Russell Ball completed his solo-unsupported endurance UKI Capital Cities Bike Challenge. The ride was more than 1,000 miles and took over 300,000 pedal strikes. Trees were planted in schools in every capital city: Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and London with over 700 children.
He stated: “This was an epic challenge and remarkably, there were only a few hours of drizzle during the 2.5 week ride and the bike had no punctures! The school visits were the key focus and made all the countless hill-climbs and hours of headwinds worthwhile. At Fund4trees we now hope that Donate1Job and Donate1Hour are now firmly on the map to help us secure a longer-term sustainable funding-stream for much-needed urban tree research.”
Fund4Trees would especially like to thank the Ride sponsors Gristwood & Toms and Barchams, and the Trees Officers in all the Capital cities for securing the schools and arranging the tree plantings.
